Charging station from Ekoenergetyka-Polska in Katowice
PKM Katowice, one of the largest public transport operators in Upper Silesia, consistently implements the plan to transform the city’ fleet. At the beginning of February the first electric bus was launched in Katowice, now the city fast charging station from Ekoenergetyka-Polska has been put into operation.
Fast charging station in the city centre
The first electric bus that left for the streets of Katowice operates in the crowded city center. Therefore, it was necessary to install a fast charging station, which recharges the battery of the bus at a stop.
The station launched by the Polish manufacturer of electric vehicle charging infrastructure has a capacity of 200 kW with the possibility of increasing the power to 400 kW. Buses are charged by an inverted pantograph, which allows to reduce the weight of the bus and increase the reliability of the whole system, due to the lack of moving parts on the vehicle.
It is one of the first in Poland, and another after Inowrocław, the implementation of OppCharge type solution by Ekoenergetyka-Polska. Thanks to it, the charging process itself is fully automated and does not require driver’s intervention. The bus communicates with the charging station automatically via a wireless wi-fi network.
